What is it like to be young and Hispanic in America in 2008? That's the question that Latino Art Beat, a Chicago-based non-profit arts organization, challenged a talented new crop of high school art students to visually answer in its 2008 "What Hispanic Heritage Means to Me" fine-arts competition.
The resulting drawings and paintings reflect the varied experiences and perceptions of their young creators in ways both unexpected and beautiful.
Latino Art Beat hosts the competition in five cities nationwide, and Nordstrom is proud to feature the first-place entry from each city at selected Nordstrom stores nationwide and here in our e-gallery. Prints of the winning artwork are available for sale at www.latinoartbeat.com; all proceeds benefit Latino Art Beat.
Nordstrom will also give each winner a $1,000 cash prize and make a $20,000 donation to Latino Art Beat to help it continue in its mission to 'Celebrate Youth, Art and Hispanic Heritage and Culture.'
