NORDSTROM OPENS FIRST STORE IN STATE OF FLORIDA
BOCA RATON, FL (November 3, 2000) - Fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom, Inc. opened its first store in the state of Florida today at the Town Center at Boca Raton. Nearly 400 store employees lined the aisles of the 193,000-square foot store to cheer the first customers through the door.
"We couldn’t be more excited to get our doors open and welcome the Boca Raton community to Nordstrom," said Pat McGowan, store manager. "We have an outstanding team of people here who’ve been working hard to prepare for this day and can’t wait to start taking care of customers - our goal today is to make as many friends as possible and introduce them to what Nordstrom has to offer."
The Town Center at Boca Raton is the retailer’s 77th full-line store. It offers two levels of classic and contemporary shoes, clothing and accessories for men, women and children. The merchandise offering comprises 80,000 pair of shoes, 3,200 men’s neckties, 4,700 dress shirts in 50 different sizes, 3,600 pair of jeans and 1,800 lipsticks. The wide selection includes Nordstrom exclusives such as Façonnable, Callaway Golf Apparel, Talora, Halogen, Caslon and Classiques Entier. The store also features a year-round swim shop - a new concept designed to cater specifically to needs of Boca Raton shoppers.
Earlier in the week, Nordstrom celebrated its opening with two fundraisers that raised a total of $200,000 to benefit Project ALS. On October 30, 1400 guests enjoyed a cocktail party where celebrities such as Richard Kind, Greg Kinnear, and Jason Priestly enjoyed playing pool, dancing to tunes spun by DJ Mark Ronson, tarot card readings and sipping custom-created "Nortinis." The next day the retailer’s celebrity golf tournament paired guests with film and sports personalities including Don Shula, Deacon Jones and Bob Greise. Earlier in the month (with weather still in the 80’s) Nordstrom "broke the ice" with the community by opening an ice skating rink in front of its store, which raised $60,000 for The Junior League of Boca Raton, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and the Florence Fuller Child Development Centers.
Earlier in the year, Nordstrom announced plans to continue its southeast expansion with stores planned for Tampa, FL in fall of 2001, Coral Gables, FL in fall of 2002 and Orlando, FL in spring of 2003.
Nordstrom, Inc. is a fashion specialty retailer with 120 stores located in 24 states, including 77 full-line stores, 37 Nordstrom Racks, three Façonnable boutiques, two freestanding shoe stores and one clearance store. The company also seeks to serve customers through its online presence at http//www.nordstrom.com as well as with its direct mail catalogs.
