NORDSTROM DONATES OVER $1.8 MILLION TO AMERICAN RED CROSS Retailer Credits Customers for Role in Contribution
SEATTLE, Wash. - October 9, 2001 - Nordstrom, Inc. announced today it will make a $1,868,000 million donation to the American Red Cross. The retailer says its customers are largely to thank for their role in raising the donation substantially above the company's guaranteed contribution of $1 million, which it attached to its sales from full-line stores, Nordstrom Rack stores and Nordstrom.com from September 28 through October 8.
"Because we'd heard from both our customers and our employees that they wanted a way to support September 11-related relief efforts through Nordstrom, we decided to donate a percent of sales during our Fall Sale event as a means of increasing our contribution beyond our initial $1 million gift," said Blake Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom, Inc. "We're pleased that our company's sales during this period allowed us to donate an additional $868,000 for the vital relief work of the American Red Cross, and are truly thankful for the support of customers who shopped with us during the event."
