NORDSTROM TO HOLD ONE-TIME UNPRECEDENTED FALL SALE
Savings of 33% to 60% from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8 on select men’s, women’s and children’s regularly priced fall merchandise
SEATTLE, Wash. - September 27, 2001 - Nordstrom, Inc., a leading fashion specialty retailer, announced it will hold an unprecedented Fall Sale over a 10-day period from September 28 to October 8 on select men’s, women’s and children’s fall merchandise. Nordstrom hosts only three major sale events a year: the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in July, and two Half Yearly Sales on clearance merchandise in June and November. This is the first time the company has added another major sale event to its calendar since it began selling apparel in 1963.
The company cited the need to generate sales and move inventory given the current retail environment. All Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com will participate in the Fall sale. Nordstrom Rack already has everyday values of 25% to 75% off.
"We hope the Fall Sale will give customers a reason to shop during these difficult times," said Blake Nordstrom, president, Nordstrom, Inc.
Markdowns of 33% - 60% will be taken on men’s, women’s and children’s select fall merchandise. The offering of merchandise during the Fall Sale will be similar to the depth of the clearance offering available during the two Half Yearly sales.
Additionally, Nordstrom will donate one percent of all sales from its stores, Nordstrom Racks and Nordstrom.com to the American Red Cross from September 28 through October 8, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $1 million. There will be no limit placed on the donation. The gift could exceed $1 million depending upon the volume of sales that occur during that 10-day period.
