NORDSTROM TO DONATE A MINIMUM OF $1 MILLION TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
1% of all sales from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8 to support the American Red Cross
SEATTLE, Wash. - September 25, 2001 - Nordstrom, Inc., a leading fashion specialty retailer, announced today that it will give a guaranteed minimum donation of $1 million to the American Red Cross. Over a 10-day period from September 28 to October 8, Nordstrom will donate one percent of all sales from its stores, Nordstrom Racks and Nordstrom.com to the American Red Cross. There will be no limit placed on the donation. The gift could exceed $1 million depending upon the volume of sales that occur during that 10-day period.
"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to the victims and families affected by the September 11 tragedy," said Blake Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom, Inc. "Aside from our company making a donation, we heard from customers and employees that they wanted to participate in giving through Nordstrom. By tying our donation to sales, it allows everyone to participate and will hopefully generate more than our guaranteed $1 million gift."
"The American Red Cross is working around the clock to ensure that those affected by the recent tragedies have comfort and care," says Skip Seitz, senior vice president, American Red Cross. "We are grateful that so many Americans and corporations including Nordstrom have demonstrated a willingness to help the Red Cross provide immediate and long-term relief to everyone who has been touched by these catastrophic events. We are truly grateful for Nordstrom’s support of all our relief efforts."
In addition to the donation, employees throughout Nordstrom have donated blood and collected food, supplies, clothing and cash contributions for the various relief funds. Also, Nordstrom and Nordstrom vendor partners have made USA-themed merchandise available throughout all stores, with the proceeds of selected items supporting various relief funds. A few items supporting the relief funds include T-shirts by Cutter and Buck and the "American Beauty Pill" by Nordstrom available in the cosmetics department.
The company will host a Fall Sale during the time period of September 28 though October 8, with significant savings of 33 percent to 60 percent off regularly priced merchandise.
