FALL 2002 BEAUTY UPDATE
SEATTLE, July 12, 2002 - Fall beauty is sexy, powerful and glamorous. Rich red lips and smoky eyes were the not-so-subtle beauty trends gracing fall runways, so aim for a wearable look by emphasizing one or the other to draw attention to your inner bombshell. Essential to either look are clean, smooth skin and lash-loads of mascara.
Sultry Eyes The best autumnal eye is mysterious, not messy. Smolder within defined edges by starting with a gray, plum or brown eye shadow over lids and below bottom lashes. Add soft, slightly smudged eyeliner to define the shape of the eye. For a foolproof smoky eye, apply liner in tiny dots between individual lashes, and then gently smudge along the lash line with a sponge-tip applicator. Another trick of the trade: line the outside of the eye with a pencil, then layer shadow on top of it, creating rich texture with staying power. Keep your kisser simple with a lipstick in nude, neutral or soft pink.
Red Hot Lips American beauty is all about a clean, fresh face and a spirited red lipstick - the easiest way to update your makeup bag this season. The best lip color choices for fall are deep reds or berry shades. At their most modern, they're paired with glowing 'nude' skin and uncomplicated eyes: a soft neutral shadow across the lid and a few coats of mascara on curled lashes will do the trick. Lips are the focus here, so keep them defined by lining carefully with a pencil that closely matches your lipstick. The look is classic, yet absolutely glamorous.
Mastering the Art of Mascara Makeup artists' witty, playful uses of mascara in creating fall runway looks make it the makeup must-have. This season will see the launch of almost endless new formulas - curling mascara, colored mascara, lengthening mascara, thickening mascara - your choice depends on the look you're going for. Keep in mind; mascara should be replaced every six to eight weeks making a great excuse to experiment with all the new options available.
