NORDSTROM TO BUILD NEW STORE AT FASHION PLACE IN MURRAY, UTAH
SEATTLE SEATTLE (May 8, 2000) - Seattle-based Nordstrom today announced it will build a new, larger store at Fashion Place in Murray, Utah. The new store is part of an extensive renovation and expansion planned for the mall by The Rouse Company. The new two-level store will be approximately 144,000 square feet and offer one third more selling space. The new location is tentatively scheduled to open in fall 2002.
"We've received a warm reception in the twenty years we've been a part of Fashion Place and the greater Salt Lake community." said Erik Nordstrom, executive vice president and general manager of Nordstrom's Northwest full-line stores. "Our new, larger location gives us the opportunity to renew our commitment to both the community and our employees."
Nordstrom has operated at Fashion Place since 1981 and opened its Salt Lake City store in 1980. A third Utah store is scheduled to open in Orem at University Mall in 2002. The company's national expansion plans over the next few years will focus primarily on the top 50 metropolitan markets. Future store openings include such markets as downtown Chicago (2000), Boca Raton, Fla. (2000), Charlotte, NC (2002), Durham, NC (2002), St. Louis, Mo. (2002), and Coral Gables, Fla. (Editor's note: For a complete listing of store openings please contact Nordstrom at the number above.)
The new store will be built north of the existing store, in the northwest portion of the mall's property. The additional square footage planned for the Fashion Place Nordstrom will provide for a more spacious layout and an enhanced merchandise offering. The store's interior will include the most current design concepts and visual elements being offered in Nordstrom stores.
