Nordstrom actively pursues the recruitment of people of color through job fairs, community organizations and college placement centers. Minority employment figures are tracked regularly for each region in the company. The company routinely conducts education for employees that focuses on diversity in the workplace. In 1988, 15% of Nordstrom managers were people of color. Today, 31.4% of managers are people of color and 72.4% are women. Of the company's total employment, 41.9% are people of color and 72.5% are women. Two people of color and three women also serve on the board of directors.
